Description of primary duties and responsibilities:

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Division of Student Affairs seeks to enhance student growth, to foster an equitable and inclusive environment, to develop an institutional atmosphere in which student academic and personal success are encouraged and fostered, and to provide outstanding services, programs, and facilities that enrich the student experience from orientation through graduation and that supports the university mission. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and is responsible for policy, long-range planning, budget, personnel, and coordination of the Student Affairs departments, which encompasses the Counseling and Personal Development, Intramural & Recreational Sports, Office of Residence Life & Housing, Office of Student Activities & Student Engagement, Rudolph Jones Student Center, Office of Student Conduct, and Student Health Services. Additionally, the Division is responsible for coordinating New Student Orientation and operating the FSU Food Pantry. The Division of Student Affairs is a multi-faceted operation 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, charged with managing twelve university facilities, 60 full-time, 20 temporary, and 70 student employees with a total annual budget of $15 million. Additionally, the Division of Student Affairs plays an integral role in managing substantial risks associated with facilities, student organizations, student health, and student conduct issues. As a result, the Division has high volumes of work and inquiries and, therefore, is a highly demanding and often confidential work environment.

Description of Work Continued:

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Director of Student Conduct is responsible for overseeing and administering the university’s Office of Student Conduct, including coordinating the day-to-day operations of the disciplinary process. The Director of Student Conduct will cultivate campus-wide interventions and create engaging restorative programs while developing student center programs focusing on student retention.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

A master’s degree and two years (2) of experience OR a bachelor’s degree and five (5) years in higher education, college student personnel, business management, or a related field, along with a minimum of direct experience managing student conduct processes at a four-year institution of higher learning. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of successfully overseeing student conduct processes at the collegiate level, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters effectively. Flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends are essential to meet the demands of this role.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • The Director of Conduct will bring at least five years of experience at a four-year institution of higher learning, working with college students, parents, law enforcement, and other campus stakeholders on sensitive and confidential matters. This role requires exceptional interpersonal skills, along with a strong commitment to fostering student development and promoting a culture of learning at the collegiate level.
  • Possess extensive expertise in university student conduct processes, with proven experience in leading and managing all aspects of a student conduct system.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance issues such as Title IX and the Clery Act
  • Ability to undertake independent projects and manage competing tasks
  • Ability to utilize assessment instrumentation to effectively review, evaluate, and drive student outcomes in accordance to CAS Standards
  • Professional standards of confidentiality, personal integrity, and ability to work closely with all constituencies of FSU
Preferred Qualifications:

At least five (5) years of direct experience with Student Conduct at the collegiate level.
