Job Description:
Title: English Literacy Instructor

General Statement of Duties:
The English Literacy Instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective literacy instruction to elementary students (grades K-5) to enhance their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for English language Learners (ELL). (ELLs)The role involves creating a supportive classroom environment with cultural sensitivity, implementing differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and regularly assessing student progress to provide personalized feedback. The instructor will collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and families to ensure a cohesive learning experience that promotes English literacy development both in the classroom and at home. A passion for English literacy education, knowledge and experience with English literacy strategies and curriculums at WPS to support with assignments, experience and genuine interest in helping ELLs, and an interest in continuous continued professional growth is essential for this role.
Responsibilities:
1. Instruction: Plan, teach, and assess English literacy lessons for elementary students (grades K-5) who are ELLs or English is their second language.
2. Curriculum: Knowledge of and experience with existing English literacy strategies and curriculums used at WPS to help with assignments.
3. Creativity: Develop and implement different classroom presentation techniques, activities, and project based exercises to help students increase their English literacy skills.
4. Assessment: Regularly assess student progress, provide timely feedback, and adjust instructional strategies to support individual learning needs, using LEIs and WPS assessment tools to measure student progress.
5. Classroom management: Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning, encouraging student participation and engagement.
6. Collaboration: Work closely with staff and parents to ensure students' academic and emotional development.
7. Professional development: Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in English literacy instruction, ELL teaching strategies, and elementary education.
8. Monitoring and continuous improvement: Through data-driven decision-making, continuously monitor the program's effectiveness and implement improvements as necessary to enhance learning outcomes and participant experience.
9. Responsible: Assure equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, region, national origin, immigration status, homelessness, disability, or gender identity.
10. Other duties as assigned, including supporting other staff and representing the organization upon assignment.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
1. At least a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education with proven experience teaching English literacy at the elementary level and a solid understanding of language and literacy development, methodologies, and assessments, especially those used in the State of Massachusetts/public schools.
2. Massachusetts Licensure as an ESL teacher.
3. SEI Endorsement or dual licensure.
4. Bilingual (English and Spanish) and previous experience working with culturally diverse communities.
5. Strong organizational and communication skills.
6. Strong reporting writing skills (with quantitative and qualitative data).
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Advance educational preparation in the area of ESL instructional methodology to support ELL students.
2. Experience in the area of bilingual/bicultural education and second language acquisition.
3. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs.
