Job Summary
The Research Enterprise in the Department of Pediatrics at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Grants/Contract Officer (GCO) II. The GCO II will be a part of the Pediatric Research Enterprise Pre-Award Office team. The GCO II assists Principal Investigators within the Department of Pediatrics by performing administrative and technical functions associated with grants and contracts from external funding sources. The Pre-Award GCO II will provide professional guidance to Principal Investigators through the Pre-Award process, including funding opportunity eligibility, proposal preparation, budget development, submission, post-submission actions, and transition to post-award.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Proficient with all the duties and responsibilities of a Grant/Contract Officer I.
- Administers Pre-award activities related to sponsored projects to maximize funding opportunities and limit financial deviations.
- Works closely with Department of Pediatrics Faculty and Project Teams as well as the other Pre-Award Office Team members to implement the pre-award grant application processes, including regulation and compliance analysis, subcontract processing, proposal coordination, and criteria development and review.
- Works closely with Division-specific Pediatrics Post-Award Financial Management teams to ensure that funded grants and contracts transition effectively from Pre- to Post-Award. Provides compliance-related guidance to the Post-Award Financial Teams and Project Teams through the lifetime of the award or contract.
- Ensures proper internal and external documentation is maintained, organized, and accessible for all projects.
- Serves as a liaison between the Investigator and Research Administration entities throughout the University, including the Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of Sponsored Projects, Clinical Trials Office, Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Technology & Venture Commercialization, etc.
- Serves as a liaison to sponsors.
- Maintains current knowledge of expanding and changing federal, state, and University laws and requirements governing externally funded grants and contracts.
- Independently completes proposals for a variety of sponsors. Completes award administration for activities including award set-up, modification, and maintenance.
- Ensures federal compliance by reviewing procedures/policies.
- Asks questions/provides answers demonstrating greater depth of knowledge of University and sponsor requirements.
- Leading in collaborative work with other teams in the unit or on special projects with minimal manager support.
- Utilizes prior experiences to identify issues and offer guidance to others.
- Applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to
complete substantive assignments, projects, and tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or 8 years of relevant work experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Preferences
Department Specific Preferences
- Two years' experience working with federal or private funding agencies on grants, contracts, or other agreements, preferably within an academic or higher education complex.
- Previous Pre-Award specific experience.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both autonomously and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.

Work Schedule Summary: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Opportunities for telework may be available if supported by operational needs.
