Job Summary
The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Clinical Nurse. The Clinical Nurse will be responsible for providing nursing care to patients in the Pulmonary Team, including implementing clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms, developing and implementing patient care plans to improve outcomes, providing and overseeing direct patient care, and will be involved in phone triage care. The Clinical Nurse will be responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients via phone, patient portal, and in the clinic. Utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implements clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms; develops, implements and evaluates patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions

1. A significant component of daily responsibility will include coordination of management with patients' parents, chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
2. Assisting in the pediatric pulmonary and sleep disorders clinics coordinating care and providing patient education relevant to their pulmonary diagnoses.
3. Provides and develops patient/family education materials surrounding common pulmonology disorders.
4. Communicates pulmonary management and adjustments in treatment plan to families.
5. Identifies, assesses, and diagnoses problems through patient assessment and interactions; evaluates actual or potential patient health problems.
6. Assesses, plans, and implements interventions for solving patient care problems.
7. Formulates care plans for specific patients and documents the nursing process in patient's record.
8. Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies the plan of care as needed to achieve health care goals.
9. Develops and participates in educating patients, their families or significant others about post-discharge care programs.
10. Initiates patient care meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as the patient's condition warrants.
11. Communicates lab & other test results to families.
12. Provides medication refills.
13. Assists providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity.
14. Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
15. Provides guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care.
16. Stays up-to-date on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
17. Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
18. Provides and oversees direct patient care in accordance with the established nursing protocol and physicians' orders.
19. Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions; initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
20. Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.

CommentsEmployee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.
This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Minimum Qualifications
Required
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Preferred
Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

• Prior experience working with pediatrics and/or sleep medicine patients is preferred.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
• Computer skills and proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and electronic medical records.
