Research Associate, School of Dentistry
Job Summary
The research lab of Dr. Brenda Heaton seeks a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE with experience in epidemiology, survey research methodology, health disparities research, data collection and analysis, and scientific writing to join our team. The Heaton Lab is located at the School of Dentistry and the Department of Population Health Sciences in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah. As a member of Dr. Heaton's lab, the successful candidate will be well-positioned to contribute to the study of oral health equity through research that investigates the social, economic, and political drivers of dental care access, utilization, and quality, including large-scale studies designed to investigate the relationship between oral health and overall health and well-being.

Responsibilities
Duties will include engagement in study design, data procurement, management and analysis, manuscript preparation, and general project management activities associated with the above. It is also expected that the successful candidate will be interested in and capable of contributing to the scientific mentoring or others. Additionally, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will commit a portion of their time to the School of Dentistry Office of Research, led by Dr. Heaton in her role as Associate Dean of Research. Duties in the Office of Research will include helping to expand the scope and impact of oral health research in the School of Dentistry and across the University of Utah.
The preferred candidate will have a PhD degree and academic research experience in epidemiology, health services research, public health, or a related health science discipline. They will be expected to work with a high degree of scientific creativity and independence. They will also work closely with a dynamic and growing team of staff, trainees, and collaborators to support ongoing studies and research development activities at the School of Dentistry.
As a member of the Heaton lab and the Office of Research, the successful candidate will:
• Manage, analyze, and interpret clinical and survey data for ongoing studies in population oral health• Engage in survey design, development, and deployment for new initiatives• Contribute to analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data• Create figures for publications and grants• Help prepare manuscripts and grant proposals• Collaborate with other lab members, Office of Research staff, and faculty as a member of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional team.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferences
• PhD or Masters degree with track record of scientific publication and academic productivity• Research and teaching experience in population health, epidemiology, or public health research• Quantitative analysis skills including SAS, STATA and/or R• Qualitative analysis experience• Familiarity with RedCap and Epic• Data and database management experience• Experience with survey design and analysis
