Job Summary

Job Summary
The Developmental Assessment Clinics at the University of Utah is looking for an outstanding Physician Assistant. The candidate will provide primary care and treatment to children referred to our Developmental Assessment Clinics (DAC), working primarily with the Neonatal Follow-up Program, Child Development Program, and Heart Center Neurodevelopmental Program, performing in person or virtual clinical visits. The perfect candidate will have experience with developmental examinations and working with children with developmental concerns such as cerebral palsy, autism, speech/language concerns, motor skill concerns, etc. You will be an active member of our multidisciplinary team performing assessments and providing recommendations for interventions as necessary to enhance and improve developmental outcomes. Clinics are held in Salt Lake City and Lehi.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  1. Assess the physical and developmental condition of patients referred to the DAC by performing physical / developmental examinations and obtaining medical histories. Formulate the medical and developmental plan based on patient's condition.
  2. Collaborate with hospitals, school districts, and community agencies. Prepare reports for parents, primary care providers and other agencies.
  3. Consult with physician(s) and multidisciplinary team regarding patient health care plans and treatment. Work in conjunction with the patient's primary care provider or medical home. Participate in care conferences and staffing meetings.
  4. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  5. Initiate and/or recommend medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
  6. Comply with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiate and maintain required records and legal documents.
  7. Participate in quality improvement activities, processes and provider meetings.
  8. Identify and facilitate access to other behavioral, medical or community resources and follow up as necessary.
  9. Work closely with the DAC team, providing guidance and oversight as necessary.
  10. Evaluate, plan, implement, and re-evaluate the care of individuals as required.
  11. Train and supervise students including pre and post graduate level trainees
  12. Participate in research ongoing with the DAC as required.
  13. Participate in quality improvement projects.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required: Nearly Continuously: Office environment.Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

  • This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around behavioral health patients.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.



Minimum Qualifications
Required:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.



Preferred:

  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences
Preferences
  • Prior experience as a Nurse or Physician Assistant in Pediatrics, NBICU or Family Medicine.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge, preferably working with infants/pediatric patients with neurological, autism spectrum disorder and other health/developmental care concerns.
  • Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
