Biomedical Research Education Program Manager
Job Summary
The Biomedical Research Education Office (BREO) team in the Office of the Associate VP for Research seeks a Program Manager with an interest in grant administration and academic program management. This position will serve two key institutional roles - 1) support the NIH funded Intermountain Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (IM-PREP), and 2) support the submission and management of institutional training grants.
IM-PREP provides opportunities for post-baccalaureate students from underrepresented backgrounds to gain experience working on independent research projects and develop their professional skills. IM-PREP students are intentionally diverse in both their academic and lived experience. A central objective of the program is facilitating students transition from IM-PREP to top-tier biomedical PhD programs. As the Program Manager, this position will work closely with the Program Directors, students, and their faculty mentors to create a welcoming and holistic training environment.
The Training Grants and Fellowships team works with faculty and students to support pre and post award activities related to institutional training grants and fellowships. This position will be part of a team supporting these grants. Team engagement varies with the needs of each proposal but can include, data collection, budget preparation, reviewing program plans, and aiding with strategic decisions. The position will also oversee training related programs including the Fellowship Incentive Program, support for the Training Grant Directors Club, and coordinating program evaluation in collaboration with the Genetic Science Learning Center (GLSC).
This person will be expected to perform all essential functions outlined below under minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
Serve as the Program Manager for the IM-PREP program.
- Post-award management of the NIH/NIGMS R25 grant, including processing of student appointments and terminations in XTrain, develop and manage annual budgets, collaborate with Program Directors to draft and submit annual progress reports.
- Onboarding and logistical activities for IM-PREP students including hiring, onboarding, enrollment, and orientation of scholars; oversight of course registration, payroll, insurance, and tuition.
- Support Program Directors in the recruitment, application, and review process.
- Establish robust channels of communication between students, Program Directors, and faculty mentors to ensure a successful training experience.
- Work closely with Program Directors to support the mental and emotional health of IM-PREP trainees, providing guidance on available resources and promoting a welcoming environment that encourages personal and professional growth.
- Collaborate with the campus stakeholders to facilitate cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
- Organization of program activities and professional development workshops
- Other duties as assigned
- Assist with the development and management of institutional training grants.
- Ensure federal compliance by reviewing procedures/policies.
- Utilize prior experiences to identify issues and offer guidance to others.
- Work with Training Programs team, Training Grant PIs, and departmental administrators to navigate standard post award activities including, annual progress reports, training grant offer letters, XTrain Appointments and Terminations, transition of payroll records, benefits, and tuition.
- Manage the Health Sciences Fellowship Incentive Program and aid Director of BREO in coordinating the Training Grant Directors Club meetings.
- Coordinate training program evaluation in collaboration with the Genetic Science Learning Center (GLSC).

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area plus three years of experience in budget, grant and program management or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Develops and implements program ideas into successful academic and research programs; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
