The Department of Marketing at the David Eccles School of Business, University of Utah, invites applications and nominations for the Royal L. Garff Presidential Endowed Chair in Marketing. The Royal L. Garff Presidential Chair was established in 1988 with a gift from the J. Willard Marriott Foundation in honor of former Professor Royal L. Garff, who taught at the University of Utah for 32 years.
Successful candidates for the Endowed Chair will be senior scholars in Marketing who excel in all areas of research, teaching, service, and mentorship. This position should serve as a role model for collaboration and cooperation within the Department and School and demonstrate an appreciation of all areas traditionally represented in Marketing. Candidates should meet the qualifications of a tenured full Professor in the Department of Marketing.
Ideal qualifications for this position include:
- PhD in Marketing or long-standing appointment in a Marketing department.
- Record of high-quality scholarship focused on A-level Marketing journals as evidenced by productivity and impact on the field, with a preference for scholarship in quantitative marketing.
- Research interests that enhance and expand the intellectual environment of the Department and School.
- Current or past Editor, Associate Editor, or Editorial Board appointments at one or more A-level Marketing journals.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including EMBA and MBA courses.
- Record of supporting PhD student development and successful PhD student placement.
- History of effective service in leadership roles at the department, college, or university level.
- Involvement in creating and launching new programs.
- Experience cultivating relationships in the business community to support student success and faculty research.
- Strong record of collaboration within and across departments.
- A demonstrated history of effective and professional interactions with others.
- Willingness to work with and develop junior faculty.
- Strong management skills including active listening, critical thinking, communication, and counseling.
- This person should should demonstrate leadership and contribute to the productivity of the department.
The Marketing Department has expanded over the last 12 years from just over 60 students to approximately 250 undergraduate majors with interests in both traditional marketing and professional sales. The Department was among the first handful of schools to launch a successful Master of Business Analytics Program focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence, which is a top-10 TFE Times program and a central focus of the faculty. The Department hosts several research conferences annually during ski season which bring top scholars together to share advances in their fields and enjoy our natural environment.
The Eccles School includes 82 tenure-track faculty, 81 career-line faculty, 178 adjunct faculty, and 305 staff and is home to a range of Institutes and Centers:
Institutes
- The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute provides independent economic, demographic, and public policy data, as well as research and analysis to support informed decision-making throughout Utah and beyond.
- Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute is a nationally ranked hub for student entrepreneurs and innovators at the University of Utah. Lassonde has something for all students wanting to learn how to become a founder, creator, or change-maker.
- The Marriner S. Eccles Institute for Economics and Quantitative Analysis provides transformational, interdisciplinary opportunities for students in fields related to economics.
- Sorenson Impact Institute advances the understanding and application of free enterprise principles to create scalable, sustainable societal change. They create innovative, data-driven approaches to difficult social and public health challenges.
Centers
- The Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity promotes societal advancement by integrating value-creating innovation and entrepreneurship with health-enabling practices in pursuit of economic, social, and political well-being.
- The Goff Strategic Leadership Center builds a bridge between the classroom and community for all University of Utah students. - The Ivory-Boyer Real Estate Center prepares the next generation of leaders in real estate through academic programs, degree options, executive education programs and the Utah Real Estate Challenge.
- The Sorenson Center for Discovery & Innovation Studies is a dedicated research center for the David Eccles School of Business. They support post-doc fellowships, faculty research, research conferences, and high-level policy work.
- The Stena Center for Financial Technology at the University of Utah unites education and industry to accelerate financial innovation and inclusion. It is a collaborative effort of the David Eccles School of Business and the John and Marcia Price College of Engineering.
