Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Political Science
Details
The Department of Political Science at the University of Utah invites applicants for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor - Lecturer with a focus on law and courts. Candidates from all subfields are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching adds a comparative/international perspective to the curriculum or whose teaching can contribute to more than one subfield. The position begins July 1, 2025 and carries a three-year renewable contract.
By time of appointment, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Political Science. This is a teaching focused position with a teaching load of 6 courses over the academic year. The hire will also be expected to contribute to student learning beyond regular classes through the supervision of student research and Honors theses, and participating in department administrative and service responsibilities. The department provides all faculty with research and travel support, and career-line faculty are encouraged to participate in research colloquia in the department.
We encourage applications from scholars who use a range of methodological and theoretical approaches and whose research and teaching contribute to the empirical study of law and courts. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, comparative judicial systems, constitutional law, comparative constitutional design, civil liberties, jurisprudential theory, legal philosophy, and/or judicial politics/behavior. We expect that a successful candidate for this position will be able to teach some of the courses currently offered in our Law & Politics subfield (e.g. Judicial Process, Constitutional Law, and/or Introduction to Law & Politics) through both online and in-person modalities and we also encourage candidates to contribute new courses based on their areas of expertise.
Applicant must submit a vitae, contact information (name, email and phone number) for three references, and a detailed cover letter that addresses how the applicant meets the qualifications and preferences listed above.
The department will begin reviewing applications on December 6, and will continue until the position is filled.
