PS Dental Hygienist

Job Summary

The incumbent participates in the preventative dental care of patients by performing oral health assessments and charting, completing dental prophylaxis, providing oral cancer screening, applying topical fluorides, examining teeth, instructing patients on proper dental care, and performing procedures in compliance with the Utah Dental Practice Act.

This position will support hygiene services for the University of Utah Ogden Dental Clinic.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions1. Sets up instruments and other equipment.2. Assess the oral health of patients and report findings to dentists3. Educate patients on proper dental hygiene care and nutrition.4. Remove calculus deposits, stains, and biofilm from teeth.5. Apply sealants and fluoride treatments.6. Perform necessary treatments and procedures within their scope to improve the periodontal health of patients.7. Assist in Panoramic and digital radiography and 3D imaging techniques.8. Document patient care and treatment plans in Epic.9. Clean, sharpen, and sterilize instruments and equipment.10. Participate in staff and assigned committee meetings. PreferencesBachelor's degree preferredLocal Anesthesia license preferredPractice Management software experience CommentsThis position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as medical equipment, while providing patient care. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his or her assigned department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual. The staff member must be willing to learn practice management systems, particularly Epic Wisdom and Romexis.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an approved dental hygiene program or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtained within one month of hire.

Current license to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Utah.

Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
