General Summary

Assist in the daily operation of the athletic equipment room including issuance, inventory, maintenance and repair of athletic equipment; coordinate and perform department-wide laundry related activities; and assist with coordinating and monitoring work assignments of student support staff.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Classify, inspect, wash, dry, fold, and count laundry.
  • Arrange pickup and delivery of laundry, including coordination of routes.
  • Advise workers on materials and methods to be used in laundering.
  • Ensure proper use of laundry equipment and adjust equipment as needed.
  • Maintain laundry files and other office records, including billings to departments and time worked by employees in the laundry area.
  • Assist in game management for home athletics events Assist in the disbursement of athletic equipment.
  • Assist in ordering necessary replacement equipment.
  • Assist in preparation of equipment for athletic competition, including matching equipment to individuals.
  • Operate motor vehicles to and from practices and competitions.
  • Inventory and order supplies.
  • Prepare work orders for needed repairs, as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work and storage areas and all supplies, vehicles and equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Report any damage, malfunction, irregularities, and/or potential hazards in grounds, equipment, vehicles or supplies to supervisor.
  • Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures Perform related departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to read, write, interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education, is necessary.
Ability to meet departmental standards of reasonable personal hygiene is necessary.
Two years of experience operating commercial machines in a laundry operations center is required.
Ability to maintain accurate records is necessary.
Experience with athletic equipment inventory tracking systems (e.g. Jump Forward, ACS, Sport Soft) is required.
Knowledge of the best practices and care in treating athletic uniform and apparel fabrics is required.
Two years of experience in athletic equipment support, preferably at the collegiate or professional level is required.
AEMA certification is required in order to assist with proper equipment fitting.
Experience communicating with coaches and administrators to fulfill team and department goals is necessary.
Basic knowledge of team catalog offerings from the department's official apparel and footwear provider is required.
Ability to perform physically active work of a medium nature, requiring frequent walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching activities to perform routine laundry functions; and occasional lifting requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force to transport materials and equipment is necessary.
Possession of a valid driver's license is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in bookkeeping is desirable.

Additional Information:

Salary: FM 10 = $19.78 an hour.

Shift: M-F 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
