THE OPPORTUNITY: Reporting to the Director of Residence Life and Dining Services, the Residential Educational Coordinator will work within our residential living/education program dedicated to providing a high-quality experience to 600 on campus students. The Coordinator will be tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the residential education component of our department including supervising 24 Community Assistants and assisting with the oversight of our residential curriculum.
SALARY: This is a 12 month, non-exempt hourly, live-in position with a starting rate of $20.00 per hour. An air conditioned apartment with kitchen, living room, and free utilities is provided and required. One dog or cat, and partner welcome.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Select, train, supervise and evaluate between 20 and 25
Community Assistants including weekly hall meetings, monthly area
staff meetings and individual meetings.
- Develop, in conjunction with other Housing professionals, a
programming curriculum that meets the needs of today's students
using a variety of student developmental theories and
practices.
- Assess and identify specific interests and needs of students to
implement departmental program goals in the areas.
- Provide in-service training for students, student leaders, and
staff.
- Coordinate residential programming as assigned by the Office of
Residence Life.
- Utilize appropriate conduct support systems and implement
effective student judicial theories to ensure standards of behavior
within the residence halls that foster the growth and development
of our students.
- Work with campus partners, specifically those within the
Division of Student Affairs to advance programmatic
initiatives.
- Utilize appropriate conduct support systems and implement

development of our students.
- Participate in the development of the department through
presenting workshops for staff and students.
- Support the profession through service to professional
organizations.
- Accept opportunities to be involved in special projects and
committees throughout the Northern and Aberdeen
community.
- Serve on call rotation, one week per month.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor's Degree required. Preference will be given to individuals with a major in Social Work, Psychology or Communications.
2. A minimum of two years on-campus living as an undergraduate is preferred.
3. Leadership skills and an ability to work effectively with university students.
4. Ability to work autonomously in a team environment.
5. Demonstrated commitment to building an inclusive residential community for all students.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Excellent organizational skills specifically in record keeping
and time management.
- Ability to relate empathetically and effectively with a variety
of people.
- Excellent interpersonal/group communication skills, both
written and verbal.
- Teaching/training experience is desirable.
- The ability to multi-task.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
and other departments.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and lift a minimum of 25
lbs.
- Ability to hear, read, understand, and follow written
instructions.
- Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and
Internet.
