Job Description
The Structural Shop Supervisor manages roofers, carpenters, and sign-making as needed. Main focus areas include:
1) Roofing – knowledgeable about all types of major roofing systems and keep current with new roofing technologies and understanding of roof repairs.
2) Building Envelope – knowledgeable of how to ensure no water infiltration through roof, window or walls in campus facilities.
3) Painting – mostly accomplished through contractors but need to be knowledgeable about different types of paints and the necessary surface preparations for different building materials and how to address issues with multiple and old layers of paint in order to effectively manage the painting contractors.
4) Signs – need to understand campus sign standards and sign making techniques for signs made in-house or through contractors.
5) Disaster Preparations and Recovery – understanding of how to protect facilities from storm damage through pre-storm preparation and how to get facilities operational and recover from any related storm damage to building fabric.
6) Carpentry and other Structural skills – understanding of carpentry and other structural trades necessary for maintenance and operation of buildings.
Additionally, the Structural Shop Supervisor will assist other shops with work as needed and work closely with the key and lock shop on related issues.
Position is designated “essential personnel” for emergency closings.

Considerable knowledge of all phases of structural remodeling and building repairs which include painting, carpentry, roofing and building envelope maintenance along with sign-making. Considerable knowledge of how to acquire building permits. Demonstrated ability to estimate labor and material cost. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and direct staff in the completion of day-to-day work assignments.
Special licenses, registration or certification
Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Level and type of experience
Extensive experience in structural trades. Considerable experience with roofing systems, sign-making and carpentry. Strong supervisory experience.
Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
Journeyman in the structural trade area. Graduate of technical school for skilled trade or similar facilities maintenance program. Training or equivalent experience in building maintenance and administrative experience to manage shop and work management paperwork. Working experience and knowledge of locking systems, both hard lock and electronic locks.
