GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB



The Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator is responsible for configuring, maintaining, and administrating the College’s LMS, Canvas. This position assists the Department of eLearning in leveraging the system to achieve the highest quality instruction. The LMS Administrator will work closely with the Director of eLearning, Assistant Director of eLearning, LMS Vendor (Instructure), and third-party partners.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensures that the LMS works smoothly and efficiently.
  2. Configures the system to best support identified educational objectives, including role definition, plug-in configuration, Learning Tool Interoperability (LTI), and inter-system operations.
  3. Coordinates the communication, testing, installation, and migration to new versions of Canvas.
  4. Supports the Assistant Dean and Assistant Director in providing day-to-day issue resolution and end-user support of the LMS, including participating in end-user testing for new updates/releases, bug fixes, and possible issues.
  5. Researches and stays current on relevant data on new technologies, trends, and approaches to assist in support of the system.
  6. Collaborates with third-party vendors and eLearning staff to evaluate, test, implement, and maintain external tools within the Canvas Learning Management System.
  7. Maintains a catalog of known issues, user needs, and feature requests related to the LMS, supporting the Assistant Director in these efforts.
  8. Creates, modifies, and updates public facing, internal, technical documentation related to the system via MS Office 365, Canvas, and SharePoint.
  9. Provides one-on-one, group, and just-in-time training sessions in synchronous and asynchronous formats, as well as face-to-face instruction and presentations.
  10. Liaises with and supports all non-credit courses run at Middlesex College.
  11. Represents the Department of eLearning in College Governance Committees and subcommittees.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree; and
  • Experience with Canvas LMS administration;
  • Experience working in a distance/online learning department;
  • Experience with Zoom and Microsoft Office applications (SharePoint, Teams, and Planner).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Master’s degree;
  • Experience using Canvas, Shutterstock, Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Camtasia, and Respondus;
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise: to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system software and learning tool interoperability (LTIs);
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and command line scripting;
  • Demonstrated ability to master changing LMS technologies and trends;
  • Ability to proactively plan and complete time-sensitive project goals;
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with integrity and complete confidentiality;
  • Ability to target specific communication to focus on faculty, staff, or students based on need.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
  • Hearing: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

SCHEDULE : Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement

Consistent with the current application of Middlesex College Policy 4.18.0, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, and are subject to change or cancellation. Further, they are contingent on the employee completing an initial probationary work period and receiving approval from his or her immediate supervisor, and may be re-evaluated after six (6) months.
