Class Description

Coordinates CCBC Libraries instruction services and is responsible for the oversight, implementation, and evaluation of these services. Manages the liaison program and evaluates performance and assesses progress on library instruction and information literacy projects. Identifies and implements new policies, procedures and technologies available for library instruction; develops new services and initiatives for library instruction. Provides general reference service to the campus community; offers course-integrated and individual instruction sessions and research appointments for faculty, staff, and students; collaborates with library faculty and staff in the planning, development, and implementation of library services and policies; participates in collection development activities such as print and electronic materials selection, inventory, and weeding of the collection.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional library experience in an academic, research or public library.
  • Knowledge of ACRL information literacy framework principles
  • Knowledge of trends in reference and instruction. Expertise with library research tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively and collegially with a large and diverse population of faculty, students, and staff.

Class Specific Essential Duties
  • Teach principles of information literacy in a variety of modalities
  • Serve as a library liaison to one or more academic departments
  • Staff information desk, including opening, evening, and Saturday hours
  • Conduct reference interviews to determine information needs
  • Choose sources appropriate to questions asked, assignment objectives and user’s level of expertise
  • Effectively use and teach a variety of sources including print materials, online catalog, subscription databases, internet, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Collaborate with classroom faculty to plan library instruction sessions
  • Creates research guides and other print and digital learning objects and teaching aids
  • Participate in collection maintenance projects.
Position Specific Essential Duties

  1. Coordinates all library instruction for the college and leads all information literacy programming, including embedding
  2. Coordinates the library liaison program
  3. Builds collaborative and strategic outreach programming regarding instruction
  4. Supervise the Library Instruction Assistant
  5. Supports all CCBC librarians in deepening their knowledge of pedagogy, curricula, and assessment and in honing their teaching praxes
  6. Conducts library faculty teaching observations
  7. Facilitates library instruction curriculum development, review, and revision
  8. Facilitates development, implementation, and assessment of information literacy objectives at the course, program, and institutional level
  9. Serves on college-wide committees and activities regarding issues of teaching and learning
  10. Develops collaborative partnerships with students, staff, and faculty in support of student success
  11. Maintain professional awareness and growth through participation in professional organizations and continuing education activities

Long-Term Disability

  • Roth 403(b) is a savings feature that is available when you open a 403(b) account. The Roth 403(b) savings feature allows employees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdraw tax-free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.

McDaniel College has extended its Educator’s Legacy Scholarship (ELS) program to CCBC benefits-eligible employees. CCBC is among the inaugural community college partners.

Children of ANY current full-time benefits-eligible CCBC employee with at least four years of continuous full-time employment are eligible to receive a scholarship valued at up to $100,000 over four (4) years.
