POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for protecting system boundaries, keeping computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and securing highly sensitive data.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of security network devices (switches, antivirus,
cryptography, etc.) and other security networking hardware/software
tools.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, access
control lists, LAN, WAN, firewalls, VPN, NAT and network traffic
analysis.
- Ability to keep current on best practices and new technological
developments in the market.
- Demonstrated understanding of information security concepts,
standards, practices, including but not limited to firewalls,
intrusion prevention and detection, TCP/IP and related protocols,
device monitoring and log management and event
monitoring/reporting.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build
professional relationships in a fast paced constantly changing
environment.
- Strong organizational skill and be able to attend to and
prioritize projects.
- Demonstrable analytical and technical aptitude with focus on
identify and alleviating the root cause of the issue; solves the
whole problem.
- Proven ability to thrive and respond to frequent demands of
multiple constituents, both internal and external to the
organization, in a customer centric manner and high demand
environment.
- Able to communicate, both in writing and verbally, in a
logical, clear effective and confident manner at all levels.
- Have personal presence, impact and influence.
- Ability to provide exemplary customer service.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree with four (4) years of experience in related
field.
- Current and valid Texas driver’s license required for off-site
travel.
- On-call, work hours may extend beyond the regular, eight hours,
Monday-Friday, workday, including weekends and holidays to provide
immediate support due to system failures on a 24/7 basis.
- Official transcripts will be required.
- Bilingual preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, configure, implement and maintain all security
platforms and their associated software, such as routers, switches,
firewalls, intrusion detection/intrusion prevention, anti-virus,
cryptography systems, SIEM, and Anti-SPAM. Plan and deploy
District’s LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers,
routers, hubs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
- Keeps up to date on best practices and technological advances
through professional development activities.
- Design, review and ongoing assessment of firewall, intrusion
detection/intrusion prevention, SIEM, VPN, SSL, application
control, Antivirus, and other network component policies.
- Formulate systems and methodologies as well as respond to
security related events and assist in remediation efforts.
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software
upgrades.
- Collaborate with department heads to assess near- and long-term
network capacity needs.
- Coordinate and monitor log analysis for managed services
offerings to ensure policies and security requirements are
met.
- Prepare and present professional presentations to both an
internal and external audience.
- Provide periodic vulnerability testing, and lead remediation
projects.
- Ensure network security best practices are implemented through
auditing: router, switch, firewall configurations, change control,
and monitoring.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems and determining
the most appropriate means of resolving problems and issues to
improve network performance.
- Manage all client situations in a professional and courteous
business manner with an emphasis on customer satisfaction, while
keeping the customer abreast of expectations, problem status and
completion in a timely manner.
- Utilizes exceptional interpersonal, presentation, oral and
written communication skills when interacting with stakeholders and
constituents who are internal/external to the Dallas College
community network.
- Completes required Dallas College Professional Development
training hours per academic year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
