General Summary
The Graduate Assistant's primary responsibility is ensuring the
smooth operation of an assigned area. Must demonstrate initiative
and be proactive when solving problems. They must be able to answer
questions and resolve issues with accuracy and respond to all
inquiries in a timely manner. They must also be confident,
courteous, respectful, and sincere in the desire to meet customer
needs.
The Graduate Assistant will assist with planning, organizing,
administering, implementing, and evaluating specific recreation
activities and programs. To accomplish these goals, the Graduate
Assistant will have to enforce policies and procedures while
delegating responsibility, assigning special duties, and solving
problems.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Rec/IM facility and Jones Natatorium reservations
- Manage Rec/IM facility and aquatic special events
- Assist in the oversight and training of Rec/IM student employees
- Assist in the hiring, training, evaluating, scheduling, and managing of staff
- Assist in the oversight and training of lifeguards and pool assistants
- Assist Aquatics Coordinator in basic maintenance of Jones Pool
- Serve as Facility Supervisor and/or Lifeguard when needed
- Monitor employee attendance, behavior, and evaluation for above assigned areas
- Enter/update schedules on employee scheduling program
- Communicate any concerns with professional staff
- Assist professional staff as needed and other duties as assigned
- Work cohesively with student employees and professional staff to foster a positive work environment
- Enforce departmental policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of recreation/intramural programs and administrative
duties, typically acquired through a degree or work
experience.
Certification in CPR/AED and Standard First Aid (or within first
three months of employment).
Lifeguard Certification (or within first three months of
employment).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, FUSION.
Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service
skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in Recreational/Intramural Sports such as Intramural Sports, Facility Management, Special Events, and Marketing is desired.
