    Job Summary

    Conduct and coordinate all aspects of the University concert bands. Take a leading role in student recruitment efforts and foster relationships within regional, state, and national band communities through school visits, workshop presentations, and guest conducting. Collaborate with and assist direction of the Pep Band.

    Priority application deadline is Monday, November 18th, 2024, but review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.





    Essential Functions

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching courses in music education, applied lessons, additional ensembles, and/or other classroom teaching.
  • Actively participate in student advising, and service activities within the University and School of Performing Arts.
  • Candidate will also maintain a strong agenda of performance and scholarly activities towards tenure and promotion.



Required Qualifications
  • D.M.A. or PhD in Conducting, Music Education, or Instrumental Performance (ABD also considered)
  • Evidence of significant conducting, teaching, and performance experience
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit student
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability and interest working in a collegial and mutually supportive environment

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
