UNIT DESCRIPTION:

 

SENG was established at the University of Guam to address the chronic shortage of local engineers in Guam and the other islands in the Western Pacific. SENG offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program. This program has recently earned accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). SENG strives to graduate highly competent engineers and provide quality professionals to Guam, Micronesia, and the neighboring regions in the Pacific and Asia. A new SENG building is currently under construction and will house the program upon completion. It will provide state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, as well as offices for faculty and administrators.

 

CHARACTER OF DUTIES:

 

SENG is looking for an outstanding candidate with expertise in Geotechnical Engineering. Appointment may be at assistant or associate professor rank, depending on experience and credentials. The candidates with teaching, research, and/or industry experience are encouraged to apply. Competencies in teaching other introductory-level civil engineering courses, such as geology, transportation engineering, surveying and construction management are desired. In addition, duties will include advising students, conducting research of regional importance, developing an externally funded research program in his or her area of specialization and serving on university committees. Furthermore, an ability to contribute to other general learning outcomes including engineering ethics, economics, and sustainability would be desirable. QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with expertise in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent, evidence of scholarly achievement, ability and willingness to work with people of diverse cultures/backgrounds, and with U.S. Professional Engineering (PE) registration or capability of obtaining the Guam PE registration before applying for promotion or tenure is required. Must be willing to teach online.

 

Preferred: At least five (5) years of teaching experience or combination of teaching/industry experience in the subject matter of this position. Demonstrated a strong record of research publications in referred journals and secured research grants. Knowledge of or work experience in remote location or with Pacific Island populations, ability to deal with unexpected challenges. Experience in the renewal of ABET accreditation procedures is preferred. Experience working and teaching in online learning programs.

WORK ELIGIBILITY:

Section 25103, Chapter 25, Title 10 of the Guam Code Annotated requires college or university employees to undergo a physical examination, to include a test for tuberculosis (skin or x-ray), prior to employment and at least annually thereafter. A report of such examination must be conducted by a licensed physician within a state or territory of the United States and must be submitted upon request.

 

Federal law requires presentation of eligibility to work in the United States within seventy-two (72) hours of reporting for employment. Specifically, 8 USC 1324A requires the employer to verify the identity and eligibility to work in the United States of all newly hired employees.
