PURPOSE
This position is primarily responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the Recreation and DWC Athletic Training Program and Risk Management efforts. Central to this role is providing on-site medical coverage as an athletic trainer during Intramural Sports, Sport Club activities, & Summer Camps. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Programs and working in partnership with the Competitive Sports team, this staff member will assist in providing evaluation and preventative care to student participants.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Athletic Trainer & Risk Management
Percent Effort: 50%
Job Duties
- Responsible for coordinating and delivering athletic training
services to assigned teams including prevention, recognition, game
coverage evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries; acute care
and emergency response to athletic injuries; rehabilitation and
reconditioning of athletic injuries; and health care administration
for the student-athletes
- Deliver athletic training services to club/intramural
student-athletes, under the direction of the oversite physician,
including prevention, recognition, evaluation and treatment of
athletic injuries; acute care and emergency response to athletic
injuries; rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries;
and health care administration for the student-athletes
- Organize and coordinate the inventory of athletic training
equipment and supplies.
- Assist with injury prevention for summer camp programs with the
Assistant Director of Family Programs & Marketing.
- Supervise the clinical experiences of the athletic training
students and assist the Director with other duties related to the
Athletic Training Program and wellbeing.
- Assist in the development and implementation of risk management
policies and procedures for Recreational Sports including but not
limited to Baseline Concussion Testing/Concussion Management
Policies and Procedures, Emergency Action Plans, Injury/Accident
Report management, Risk Management Audits and facility maintenance
logs.
Functional Area 2: Planning & Administration

Job Duties
- Serves in a leadership role on the Recreational Sports Safety
Committee collaborating with staff compiling and producing a
semester/annual calendar safety audit during the academic year for
the Rec Sport student staff

- Assist with tracking and maintaining records of employee
certifications.
Functional Area 3: Program Risk Management
Percent Effort: 35%
Job Duties
- Assist with maintaining comprehensive medical records for
individual student-athletes, daily injury reports for all athletes,
and annual injury report summarizing injuries, treatments, and
follow up care for Comp Sports & Summer Camps
- Assist in the day-to-day program planning for summer
camp
- Assist the Director with the Departmental Emergency
Communication Plan.
- Maintain and track safety equipment, including, though not
limited to Lifeguard equipment, First Aid Kits, First Aid/CPR/AED
training equipment, and AEDs.
- Work with the Rec Sports Leadership Team on conducting
in-service trainings (beyond first aid/cpr certification) for
professional and student staff on Safety & Risk
management
- Serve as the Lead instructor and administrator for the American
Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification courses offered by the
DWC.
- Assists in the development and reporting of compliance policies
and procedures for the Dugan Wellness Center
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in athletic training, sports administration,
related field.
- Must be able to obtain State of Texas License to practice
Athletic Training within six months.
- Requires work beyond normal working hours, weekends, and
holidays.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent
organizational skills
- Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
- Certified in the Board of Certification (BOC). Texas athletic
trainer license or temporary permit by date of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's in athletic training / student Affairs related
areas.
- Trainer Certification by a nationally recognized
agency
- First Aid CPR/AED Instructor
SALARY $43,888 - $47,000 Annually Approx. (Dependent upon education and experience.)
- $3,657.33 - $3,916.67 Monthly
