EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PROGRAMS COORDINATOR - INSTRUCTOR

ANNOUNCEMENT: Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for one full-time, tenure track Emergency Medical Services Programs Coordinator/Instructor position within the Health Sciences department.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will serve as the program coordinator of and instructor in the Emergency Medical Services program. As coordinator, the individual will be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, and overall effectiveness of the educational program throughout the district and maintain current accreditation. As an instructor, the individual will teach Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic courses. The individual will assess student performance and collaborate with Emergency Medical Services faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the programs. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a professionally related area within 15 months of hire required.
- ACLS instructor, ITLS instructor and Illinois EMS Lead Instructor certifications to within 1 year of hire required.
- Shall be a paramedic with a minimum of five (5) years professional experience and qualified in educational methodologies.
- Must be licensed or become licensed by the State of Illinois as a paramedic during the first semester of employment.
- One year of teaching experience preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
- Background in administrative activities including staffing, long-range planning, quality assessment/performance improvement, and evaluation of staff, preferred.
- Experience in accreditation activities, preferred.
- Competency with applicable software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard/Brightspace, etc.) preferred.
- Ability to meet and continue to maintain the individual professional standards and qualifications established by the U.S. and Illinois Departments of Transportation, Illinois Department of Public Health, and/or program’s accrediting agencies.
- Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
STARTING SALARY: This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule. For example, the minimum 2024-2025 base salary at Step 3 on the Bachelor’s degree column is $52,188. Overload and summer teaching assignments may also be available which would increase the annual compensation. The college offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.

WORK LOCATION: The Emergency Medical Services Program is offered at the Belleville campus with district-wide coordination responsibilities. Driving may be required to reach off-campus teaching/training sites, Community Training Sites, ambulance departments throughout the district and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois.
