In this course, students will improve their writing skills through the art of journalism; students will be reading socially conscious materials and developing an autobiography. The English/Writing Intensive Instructor develops curriculum according to Upward Bound program guidelines for assigned class. Design class with subject matter that reflects current high school content as specified in MA Department of Education (DOE) curriculum frameworks and to meet learning outcomes.
• Facilitate a course with a cohort of a diverse population of
students and respond in an appropriate manner to behavior and
student concern as well as collaborating with Teaching Assistant
(TA) and Upward Bound (UB)staff.
• Respect Upward Bound summer policies and procedures: possessing a
thorough understanding of the Upward Bound Programs overall goals
and assist with a program of study that will promote success and
generate confidence for students.
• Develop and administer pre and post-testing to students at the
beginning and end of the summer program. Prepare and submit daily
homework assignments, missing homework assignment sheets and daily
attendance sheets. Submit progress reports on each students
performance on a weekly basis or as necessary.

Requirements/Qualifications:
• B.A. or B.S. degree in the relevant field. Masters degree
preferred.
• A teaching philosophy that embraces the belief that all students
can succeed given the appropriate environment and curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively develop a curriculum that is
engaging and relevant.
• Appropriate Massachusetts teaching credential plus one year of
high school or college classroom experience.
• Instructors must be committed to Upward Bounds goals and
objectives and exhibit qualities necessary for working with
students and parents.
• Must be highly-motivated, energetic, and engaging.
• Experience working with a diverse population of students is
preferred.
