Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Department Information

The Department of Theatre & Performance Studies at Kennesaw State University features a rigorous B.A. program that emphasizes both the artistry and scholarship of the creative process. Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Scenic Design in the Department of Theatre & Performance Studies with a preferred start date of August 2025. This is a nine-month contracted position. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia. The application date has been extended.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in scenic design (including model building), stagecraft, visual Imagination, theatrical production, period styles, drafting and rendering (both traditional and digital), scenic painting, props, and other courses specific to the applicant's training.
  • Maintain a robust agenda of professional creative activity and scholarship.
  • Advise and mentor students effectively throughout their time in the program and help majors progress toward graduation.
  • Support the production season through the area of their expertise.
  • Engage in service on Departmental, College, and University levels; which includes serving on committees and participating in recruitment.
  • Scenic design for the mainstage production season which includes supervision of student designers in scenic design, painting, and props.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • A Terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Scenic Design, or a related discipline, is required. The required degree must be earned by the start date.
  • Established record of excellence in scenic design in the professional field exhibiting wide-ranging practices and genres (both traditional and non-traditional).
  • A record of excellence in teaching, service, scholarship and/or creative activity.
  • Exhibit strong teaching and mentoring abilities as well as outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Command of digital skills including Vectorworks and Adobe Creative Cloud.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with production design for film and television and/or entertainment industry.
  • Experience with 3-D Modeling, Virtual Reality, and/or projection design.
  • Familiarity with the history of architecture and associated decorative items.
  • Interest in research or creative activity across disciplines within the college and the university.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
