Position Summary
  • Develop computational models to facilitate the application of nanofluids for energy storage and conversion applications through software such as COMSOL .
  • Assist in designing and executing experiments related to synthesis and characterization of nanofluids
  • Write technical reports and scientific papers for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assist in writing grant proposals to secure funding for future research.
  • Train others in computational and experimental methods.
  • Support project management and collaboration across institutions or disciplines.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and safety protocols for laboratory.
This position would support J-1, F-1 Standard OPT, and TN Visa options.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related discipline by end of first academic year and first review.
  • Prior experience with computational modeling of fluid dynamics in experimental systems such as batteries, fuel cells and electrolyzers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong research history in fields related to electrochemical engineering, ideally a mix of computational and experimental methods. Emphasis will be on selecting candidates with prior experience with computational methods.
  • Prior experience with Finite Element Modeling ( FEM ) based software packages such as COMSOL, Ansys etc.
  • Prior experience with design tools such as SolidWorks/ AUTOCAD for reactor modeling, as well as MATLAB, etc. for data analysis.
  • Practical written and oral communication skills as evidenced through
    application materials
  • Demonstrated work history as a member of a research team.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UW-La Crosse is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate and outreach education in a welcoming and inclusive environment. We aim to instill in our graduates the skills and drive necessary to meet the challenges that humanity faces in the 21st century. With over 30 tenure-track faculty and staff members, we actively provide our students with the solid foundation in chemistry and biochemistry required for successful careers in industry, research, education, engineering, health professions, and other interdisciplinary fields, while offering support to the other departments in our college. Our internationally recognized research-active faculty members engage our students in cutting-edge chemical, biochemical, and educational research in an environmentally and ethically sound manner that also provides the practical skills to the students we mentor. Our department and college maintain a large array of modern instrumentation and research/teaching laboratories in a new state-of-the-art Prairie Springs Science Center. Department members also provide a range of professional services to our community, professions, and institution in ways commensurate with our expertise and talent.

The Sen Research Group (https://electrochem.wixsite.com/senresearchgroup) in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse ( UWL ) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to support a WiSys Technology Foundation and National Science Foundation ( NSF )-sponsored research project focusing on the use of nanofluids for electrochemical applications. Details of the project can be seen here – NSF Award #2338147 (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2338147&HistoricalAwards=false). The initial term will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on productivity, performance, and available funding. Our group has access to several instruments including but not limited to SEM, XRD, EDX, Multi-channel potentiostat, CNC mill, 3D printers, fume hoods, Gas chromatograph, NMR, HPLC, variety of synthesis equipment, optical microscopes and high-performance workstations for computational modeling as part of this project. This position is 100% research, but based on candidate’s background and interests, as well as departmental needs, there may be the possibility for undergraduate level teaching opportunities. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in a career in research and teaching, especially at a Primarily undergraduate institution ( PUI ). Our department and college also maintains a large array of modern instrumentation resources (https://www.uwlax.edu/csh/instrumentation-resources/), including laboratories in the state-of-the-art Prairie Springs Science Center.
