Position Summary

The University at Buffalo School of Nursing ( SON ) invites applicants for a clinical (non-tenure) faculty position for our undergraduate nursing program. This is a full-time (12-month) appointment to educate students in our four-year BS, accelerated BS, and RN to BS programs. Faculty must also commit to the tri-partite mission of the pursuit of excellence and innovation in teaching, service (school, university, profession), and scholarship and scholarly projects. Faculty will continue to build and strengthen a core commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to prepare the leaders of tomorrow for service to their local, regional, state, national and global communities. The School of Nursing and the University at Buffalo aspire to become one of the top 25 public institutions in the nation.

Responsibilities include:
  • Classroom and online didactic teaching, mentoring, supervising, and evaluating students in clinical and simulated learning environments.
  • Collaborate with assistant dean, program coordinators, and faculty to plan, design, implement, and lead classroom, laboratory/simulated, and hospital/community student learning experiences.
  • Use of Information Technology Services such as computer/audiovisual technology, testing vendor (Ex. ExamSoft), and learning management system (Brightspace) to educate, evaluate, and assign student grades.
  • Serve as a professional role model and mentor/advisor to students to facilitate and ensure the planning, implementation, and evaluation of student learning experiences.
  • Establish collaborative and positive working relationships that respect the dignity, worth, and culture of students, faculty, staff, colleagues, peers, patients, families, communities, agency nurse managers, and interdisciplinary agency teams and staff. Participate in agency/organizational/unit orientations prn.
  • Engage in clinical/academic scholarship and engage in community professional service and/or service in professional organizations.
  • Maintain clinical nursing expertise as evidenced by continuing education or clinical practice.
  • Adheres to and promotes ethical and professional nursing standards of practice.
  • Attend monthly undergraduate faculty meetings, monthly faculty meetings and serve on school/university campus committees.
  • Comply with state, university, clinical agency, accreditation and professional regulations/requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited school of nursing and plans to complete a doctorate within five years.
  • Current unencumbered New York state licensure (license eligible) as a registered nurse.
  • Two years of clinical experience.
  • Teaching and/or patient education experience.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with students, faculty, and interdisciplinary colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the Dean and SON leadership, faculty, staff, and students to advance UB’s mission to become a top 25 public research university.
  • Experience with diverse populations and a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD, DNP, EdD or doctoral degree in another health/health related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Previous experience teaching in classroom, online and simulated environments.
  • Clinical simulation/practicum student supervision.
  • Recent medical/surgical nursing experience—either clinical or teaching.
