Department Information
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide custodial service for residential areas including interior/exterior hallways, breezeways, stairwells, flooring, trash, recycle receptacles, residential grounds and parking lots
2. Provide cleaning services for residential units including apartments, suites, community and lounge areas, bathrooms, offices, lobbies, elevators, laundry room and fitness areas
3. Vacuum rugs in offices and public areas and periodically shampoo rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner and rug-shampooing machine
4. Remove, wash and replace blinds and wash ceiling fixtures using ladders and scaffolds
5. Wash windowsills, window glass, trim and entrance doors and other glass areas as appropriate
6. Wash and clean interior wall space by hand or with powered wall washing machine, using ladders and scaffolding, as required
7. Clean interior and exterior trash rooms/trash chute rooms and move and setup furniture for residential events
8. Responsible for cleaning and preparing student residential units
9. Sweep, clean, and shovel snow from steps and walkways at building entrances.
10. Conduct health and safety inspections in residential units
11. Pickup of trash and litter on residential grounds, pressure wash exterior of buildings and clean interior and exterior light fixtures
Job Summary
Performs housekeeping and janitorial duties to maintain assigned offices, restrooms, public areas and/or residence locations. Assist with general labor and minor repair tasks for University buildings and facilities.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*:
1. Cleans assigned buildings and locations including but not limited to dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, collecting trash and wiping waste and recycling receptacles
2. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, showers, and locker rooms and replenishes paper towels, and soap dispensers
3. Collects, launders, and dries mop heads and cleaning rags and stores appropriately
4. Waxes and refinishes floors, and shampoos carpets as assigned
5. Maintains clean and operating equipment
6. Inspects equipment and recommends the need for new parts, repairs, overhaul or replacement
7. Restocks supply closets and replenishes paper supplies in restrooms, etc.
8. Completes work order requests timely during emergencies
9. Reports building discrepancies and damages in timely manner
10. Uses required safety and protective equipment

Able to read and use diagrams and design layouts to set up rooms for events
Able to work non-traditional shifts including nights and weekends
Follows established routine and performs cleaning as instructed
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of Materials Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and awareness of safety protocols
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
