Description
St. Olaf College Job Description
Position Title: Staff Accountant
Department: Business Office
Reports To: Accounting Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt
FTE: 1.0
Starting Salary: $52,000
Essential Job Duties:
- Payroll and Benefits Responsibilities
- Reconcile payroll bank account
- Prepare journal entries for payroll and benefit invoices submitted electronically
- Prepare monthly reconciliations related to payroll tax withholdings and benefits
- Address variances with appropriate parties in Human Resources and Payroll departments promptly
- Prepare reconciliations related to the 403(b) retirement plan and VEBA
- Assist with the preparation of audit work papers
2. Accounts Receivable Responsibilities
- Prepare agency organization monthly billings
- Prepare auxiliary operations monthly billings
- Work with Grant Accountant to record grant revenue and bill grant organizations as necessary
3. Accounting for Payments Received Electronically and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance
- Record credit card revenue and fees
- Reconcile credit card bank account in Oracle
- Reconcile CS Gold activity
- Work with departments to implement electronic payment gateways as necessary
- Work with IT to maintain PCI compliance certifications
4. Other Duties

- Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work Schedule:
Term: Year-round
Shift: The standard 40-hour work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; flexible work arrangements can be proposed and are subject to approval by HR and relevant supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Associate's degree in Accounting or related field
Experience: 1+ years of related accounting/business experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
Experience: 1+ years of accounting/business experience in a non-profit or higher education environment
Prerequisites:
Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College. Please note that St. Olaf College reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to conduct periodic background checks.
