Job Description:

The Score 1 for Health program of Kansas City University (KCU) is seeking applicants for a Part-Time Registered Nurse at our Kansas City campus. Score 1 is a flagship program operating for over 30 years to bring health screenings to elementary children in schools located in the Greater Kansas City and Joplin area, where KCU's campuses are located. Under direct supervision of the Director of Score 1, this position administers, evaluates and interprets screening services. Additional responsibilities include coordination of clinical resources for screening volunteers and implementation of program operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs a variety of health screenings on primarily, but not limited to, a pediatric population
  • Utilization of nursing techniques and knowledge of nursing process to accurately evaluate results and provide child and parent education and improve health care access by assisting families in connecting to appropriate primary care clinics
  • Executes health screenings at assigned schools by ensuring that all health professional students and volunteers are in assigned stations and are oriented to duties, facilitating logistics and supervising the day's health screenings
  • Maintains a positive rapport with elementary school administrators and staff as well as all KCU and allied health school faculty and students


Supportive Functions:
  • Serves as a clinical resource for medical and health professional students at screening sites
  • Simplifies medical terminology and makes corrections/clarifications to student charts
  • Reviews letters to parents/children outlining screening results to ensure accuracy
  • Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as needed or assigned


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or greater from a nursing program in an accredited college or university, or RN completion with bachelors in related field
  • Minimum of one year pediatric and/or community health clinical experience
  • Knowledge of pediatric health assessment, health promotion, guidance and primary care and age-appropriate skills.
  • Advanced skills in communication, customer relations, organization decision-making, problem solving, flexibility, confidentiality and discretion
  • Licensed by the Missouri and Kansas State Boards of Nursing for registered nurses
