The Department of English and World Languages at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, seeks to fill a three-year teaching-intensive postdoctoral position in English composition and literature, beginning in July 2025. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in English, comparative literature, or rhetoric and composition no later than September 2025 and no earlier than 2022. The usual teaching load is 4/4, with sections of between 15 and 18 students. Applicants should have the ability to teach a core-curriculum course in composition and a core-curriculum course in introductory literature that treats diverse literatures and genres. Specialization is open, but background in creative writing, medieval literature, postcolonial and global literatures in English, or underrepresented voices in US literature is especially welcome. Military experience is not required, but candidates must have an interest in educating future officers.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 Years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.


SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (PhD is preferred) in English, Comparative Literature or a closely related field preferred. 2) Ability to teach core-curriculum courses in Composition and Introductory Literature. 3)Demonstrated ability to support the personal growth and professional development of cadets in and out of the classroom as a role model for future leaders of the Nation.
