Essential Functions:

For the 2023-2024 academic year, we enrolled over 10,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 8% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% as Black/African American, 17% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a college dedicated to the students it serves.
Providing instruction in Psychology and Human Services on the Madera Community College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, the instructor will be responsible for:
- Teaching a full range of community college psychology courses, including, but not limited to: General Psychology, Honors General Psychology, Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Human Sexuality, Lifespan Development, Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology, and Statistics for Social Sciences;
- Teaching a full range of human services courses, including but not limited to: Introduction to Social Welfare, Interviewing and Counseling, Introduction to Addictions Studies, Pharmacology of Psychoactive Drugs, Field Placement Supervision, Case Management, Prevention, Intervention, Treatment & Recovery, Co-Occurring Disorders, Group Process; Law and Ethics in Treatment;
- Writing courses and program development;
- Preparing and maintain certifications in Alcohol and Other Drugs Studies based on accreditation agency standards;
- Maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position and currency in teaching psychology and/or human services;
- Assisting with the development and growth of the Psychology and Social Work and Human Services program;
- Engaging in community outreach to develop relationships with community organizations;
- Developing, coordinating and monitoring student placements in Human Services field work sites;
- Using a variety of pedagogies and integrating a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, on-line, and/or hybrid formats;
- Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adherence to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record;
- Evaluating student progress through tests and examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc. in keeping with course objectives;
- Providing course syllabi to students;
- Maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy;
- Turning in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner;
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line (including certification to teach online) or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
- Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Master's in psychology and two years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or
- Bachelor's in psychology and master's in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience or social work and two years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
- Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
- Qualifications to also teach social work classes;
- At least two years of worked and professional experience in the field of Social Work, Human Services, or Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling;
- Demonstrated effective teaching experience in psychology and / or human services at the college or university level or experience teaching outside of a formal setting, such as community education, psychosocial education groups, professional workshops and trainings, etc.;
- Demonstrated depth, breath, and mastery in psychology and/or human services as exemplified by educational background;
- Willingness to teach at remote sites;
- Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration;
- Demonstrated ability to develop new and current curriculum and focus on student learning outcomes to improve student learning;
- Experience working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; and
- Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment:
178 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $71,054 - $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher's Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.
The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.
A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

About the College Center
Madera Community College at Oakhurst is a satellite campus of Madera Community College. It is located just 20 minutes from the South entrance to Yosemite National Park and just minutes away from the Sierra National Forest. The campus provides opportunity and access to higher education for a geographically isolated population in Eastern Madera County. The campus currently serves Oakhurst, Mariposa County, Coarsegold, North Fork and the surrounding communities with over 75 courses in a variety of study areas. The center is slated to open a new permanent campus in Fall 2021.

State Center Community College District was formed in 1964 when it assumed control of Fresno City College and Reedley College. Reedley College
Madera Center and Oakhurst Site
Reedley (approximately 25 miles southeast of Fresno) and enrolls approximately 9,575 students in a variety of courses and programs, including agriculture, aeronautics, dental assisting, forestry and natural resources, as well as academic courses in the arts and sciences. Reedley College currently operates two educational community college centers in the northern part of the district, which enroll a combined total of 4,625 students. These centers offer programs in general education for transfer and two-year degrees, occupational education and developmental education.
Clovis Community College
Clovis Community College is the newest college in the State Center Community College District, and in the California Community College System. The college provides the advantages of a medium-sized community college campus in a friendly and contemporary setting, serving more than 9,020 students from the Fresno, Clovis and foothill communities with a variety of higher education learning opportunities. Clovis Community College provides a broad, technology based curriculum that meets the individual educational needs of our clients in a global environment.
The Training Institute and Career & Technology Center
The State Center Community College District also includes the Training Institute which provides skill-based training to individuals and customized training to local businesses, and the Career & Technology Center which offers hands-on vocational training.
The Training Institute serves the training, technology, and development needs of individuals, businesses, and industry. Through teamwork and communication the center provides excellent client services. The hands-on approach helps attendees to greatly expand their skills in a short amount of time.
The Career & Technology Center works in partnership with the industry needs of the valley. Programs are developed to meet the needs of employers and students are highly skilled and employable when they leave the center. Located in south Fresno, the center provides skills training to students 18 years old with or without a high school diploma, and to students under 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent.
