Assistant Teaching Professor of Elementary Education
Position location: Kingston
The University of Rhode Island's Feinstein College of Education invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Elementary Education. This is a full time, non-tenure-track position. It is a one-year appointment, to begin Fall 2025, with the expectation for yearly renewal. The position is covered under the URI/AAUP contract. The primary responsibilities include elementary education course and program coordination and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary education and related areas. There is also an expectation for University and College service, as well as service in educational leadership at the state, regional, and (inter)national levels. This position begins in Fall 2025.
Priorities for faculty in this position will include teaching graduate and undergraduate level courses, supervising student teachers, and working with faculty to coordinate the elementary teacher education programs. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to: recruiting and advising graduate students; engaging in program development and accreditation activities; developing and maintaining collaborative and professional partnerships with local schools and districts; and serving on committees within the College and University.
The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their leadership, teaching, and/or service, will enhance the College and University's commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, and academic excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, and lead the elementary
teacher education program.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators across the
college of education to establish mutually-beneficial and deep
partnerships with PK-12 districts and stakeholders.
- Facilitate the recruitment of students to the undergraduate and
graduate programs in elementary education.
- Teach courses in the elementary teacher education major, and
other education courses as appropriate.
- Supervise elementary teacher education candidates in practicum
classroom placements.
- Engage in local, state, regional, and (inter)national
professional service in elementary education.
- Work with a diverse population and maintain the program's
particular focus on equity, social justice, culturally responsive
teaching and leadership, curriculum and instruction, and
evidence-based educational leadership and policy
practices.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Serve on college and university committees.
