About the Job

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences at the University of Minnesota Medical School is inviting applications for a postdoctoral associate on a funded NEI-R01 grant. The Lab studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate photoreceptor cell development, survival, opsin trafficking, retinoid metabolism, and molecular mechanisms of retinal cell and RPE degeneration in age related eye diseases, using cell culture, zebrafish, and mouse models, combined with cutting-edge molecular/cell biology and genomics approaches.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary research team investigating the molecular mechanisms of retinal cell degeneration and regeneration. Job Resonsibilities include:

20% Genotyping, animal husbandry.
20% Constructing novel DNA constructs and cell culture.
25% Histology, Sectioning, Imaging of Mouse and Zebrafish Retinas.
10% Perform ERG and SD-OCT imaging on animals.
15% Perform HPLC analysis for retinoids.
10% Write manuscripts and grants and present work at international meetings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on resume):
Applicants must possess a recent Ph.D., M.D, or M.D./Ph.D. degree in the field of Ophthalmology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or equivalent to apply. Candidates must have experience working with small animal models.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in retinal cell biology and HPLC analysis, confocal imaging and/or crystallography.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Expected annual stipend will be $61,008, adjusted for the next fiscal year, according to University and Medical School guidelines.
