The Music and Theater Arts (MTA) section of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, invites applications for a professor in contemporary performance practice. This is an open rank, tenure track search with a preference for an Assistant Professor. Position to begin July 1, 2025 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. MTA offers supportive mentorship to junior faculty and instructors and is an exceptional environment for artists and scholars with active creative practices centered on innovative performance-making across disciplines. The program seeks individuals who practice collaboration, empathy, and self-reflection in contributing to an inclusive, welcoming culture.

Situated within the Music & Theater Arts section of the School of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences at MIT, the program in Theater offers a broad range of courses and experiences in support of the 21T Bachelor of Science Major, Minor, and Concentration —serving upwards of 1000 students per year. As part of a vibrant interdisciplinary arts community at MIT, the program in Theater annually presents publicly attended performances, workshops, readings, lectures, exhibitions and creative residencies. Opportunities to initiate, join, or amplify collaborations across the Institute are numerous.
