Faculty-Led Program Advisor
About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY:
The Faculty-Led Programs Advisor provides a full range of advising services to students seeking acceptance to a faculty-led or embedded program, and manages a portfolio of custom programs - primarily Dialogues of Civilizations summer programs. Student advising services include goal-setting, selecting academically appropriate programs, identifying sources of funding, building cross-cultural awareness, health and safety support, and mitigation of risks.
Maintains expertise in university systems and general health and safety issues of an assigned region of the world; develops and promotes NU global programs, provides input into the admissions decisions, assists faculty with marketing and recruitment efforts, and administers program enrollment and ensures students' compliance with application requirements. The Advisor organizes and implements materials and events to prepare students for the sojourn and to facilitate reflection upon return.
May be required to travel to conduct periodic site visits and to attend, facilitate, and/or present at meetings or conferences domestically and internationally.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Maintain expertise, cultural proficiency, and programmatic knowledge in an assigned portfolio of global experience
- Handle a high volume of student communication and be able to provide direction and answers, as necessary
- Provide visa support and guidance for student study and work placements abroad in collaboration with the Visa, Policy and Compliance Manager
- Maintain general knowledge of financial policies and processes
- Maintain on-going communication with students to ensure all material is complete
- Assist with pre-departure orientations and re-entry programming
- Connect outgoing students with current or past exchange students to create meaningful connections prior to and while abroad.
- Provide end-to-end support for an assigned portfolio of faculty in the proposal, design, and implementation stages
- Communicate professionally and effectively with internal stakeholders, external partners, and with cross-functional teams to arrive at mutually agreeable and productive solutions
- Assist faculty in creating effective marketing and recruitment strategies
- Maintain accountability for budgeting with the Finance & Operations team.
- Assist in the management of the Terra Dotta application system, troubleshooting student and faculty issues as they arise
- Provide on-campus customer service representation on a rotating basis
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of the Forum on Education Abroad's standards and ethics and demonstrated knowledge in advising techniques for study abroad programs in a higher education setting.
- Effective oral and written communication to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Effective problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
- Ability to interact with global program representatives, faculty, and students and effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required. Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems (e.g., Banner) preferred.
- Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally obtained through a Bachelor's degree and one to two years of experience preferably obtained studying or living abroad.
