Temporary Research Assistant

About the Opportunity

We are seeking applications for one Graduate Research Assistant position at the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research (IHESJR) to work in Dr. Beth Molnar's Trauma and Violence Research lab on a CDC-funded research study evaluating the Healthy Relationships Project (HRP), a school-based child sexual abuse (CSA) prevention program in Washington D.C. schools serving children pre-K through 5th grade.

Ideally, the chosen temporary employee will have interests in public health, mental health, early childhood mental health, preventive interventions, community interventions, trauma, health equity and/or other related fields. The temporary employee will need to have knowledge of R statistical programming, survey data and programming (via Qualtrics), and experience with conducting and analyzing qualitative data. The Graduate Research Assistant will work on all projects and report to the Principal Investigator overseeing the study.

This position will start in January 2025 and run through April 2025. There is a possibility for further funding of this position beyond that date as well. The compensation will be hourly (between $22-$25/hour depending on Masters or Doctoral level) with an expectation of 10 hours per week.

This position will provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience as part of the vibrant research community of IHESJR: conducting research, learning about research methods, participating in preparation of manuscripts for publication, attending research seminars, receiving mentoring from experienced researchers and practitioners, and collaborating with local and national experts in the field, including federal public health agencies.

The Graduate Research Assistant may expect to participate in the following activities:
  • Management of survey data collection, entry, and quality assurance (via Qualtrics)
  • Quantitative data analysis (preferably via R statistical programming software)
  • Literature reviews
  • Scheduling and conducting qualitative interviews
  • Analysis of qualitative data (e.g., thematic analysis using Nvivo)
  • Preparation of data reports for the research team and for funder-required reports
  • Meeting/event planning
  • Note-taking during meetings
  • Grant proposal development
  • Contributing to the writing of manuscripts for publication
  • Oversight and mentorship of undergraduate interns

The work will mostly occur during typical working hours at the IHESJR offices on the Northeastern University Boston campus although some of the computer-based research may be done during alternate hours. Occasionally Graduate Research Assistant will be asked to attend meetings off-site and local travel expenses will be reimbursed.
