Assistant Professor of Data Analytics and Secondary Specializations (Information Technology, Accounting, Information Systems, Healthcare, Marketing, Finance, etc.)

Location: The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Department of Business and Economics, Wise, Virginia  Start Date: August 2025  Position Type: Tenure-track, Full-time, 9-month commitment 

Overview 

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Southwest Virginia, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Data Analytics with secondary areas of specialization such as Information Technology, Accounting, Information Systems, Marketing, Finance, or related disciplines at the assistant professor level in the Department of Business and Economics. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of undergraduate and graduate programs, essential for regional and national economic growth. 

Responsibilities 

  1. Engage in meaningful research activities, with a preference for interdisciplinary applications of data analytics in areas such as IT, accounting, marketing, healthcare, information systems or finance 

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in data analytics and related fields, with opportunities to incorporate secondary areas such as IT, accounting, information systems, marketing, healthcare, finance, or other business disciplines.  Develop new courses and curricula that integrate data analytics with secondary specializations, enhancing the interdisciplinary nature of the program.  Advise and mentor students in their academic and career development.  Participate in service activities within the department and broader university community, including committee work.  Collaborate with industry partners to facilitate internships and experiential learning opportunities in analytics and secondary specializations.  Qualifications 

  1. Ph.D. in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Information Technology, Business, Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Healthcare Management, or closely related fields from an accredited university. 

Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and impactful research in data analytics and secondary areas.  Ph.D. needs to be completed before August 20, 2025.   Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and research.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Programming skills such as in Python or R.  Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and workplace.  Industry experience is a plus.  Ph.D. from an AACSB accredited school is a plus.   Application Instructions
