Summary of Job Duties:The Career Specialist will provide career advising for Fay Jones students and alumni. Based on the students’ needs, the Career Specialist may assist students with career education and exploration, planning for a job or graduate school, and/or providing resources for the job search; provide resources for identifying experiential education opportunities (including cooperative, internships, service-learning, job shadowing, etc.); and assistance with the application process for the opportunities. The Career Specialist will design programs; create and conduct presentations in classrooms; and lead workshops for Fay Jones School academic departments, classes, student organizations, and university groups to educate diverse constituencies about career issues. This position will work in coordination with the Fay Jones School and the Career Development Center to plan and execute the annual school Career Fair and work with the Director of Student Services for the Fay Jones School to better service units to establish and maintain strong partnerships with campus colleagues, design faculty, staff, and other career services professionals. The Career Specialist will report to and be evaluated by the Director of Student Services in the Dean’s Office in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design and will have a dotted reporting line to the Director of Career Education in the Career Development Center.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education

  • At least two years of full-time professional work experience in career placement or counseling, higher education administration, business/corporate or employer relations, marketing/external relations, university advancement/development, academic advising, or a field that closely aligns with the objectives of the position

  • Experience with independent planning and execution of a significant number of successful events, meetings, and outreach programs



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree or advanced degree in a related area

  • At least three years of professional work experience in areas of recruiting, business development, employer relations, academic advising, or higher education administration

  • Experience providing career advising to students

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in design or allied design disciplines



Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable of Career Development and Student Development Theories


  • Independent, productive work skills that are supportive of quantified performance measures

  • Ability to be self-sufficient and require little administrative support

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and use of career management software designed to support the needs of the position



Salary Information:

$40,000 - $42,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
