Associate Vice President for Health & Wellness

Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Student Affairs & Public Safety, the Associate Vice President for Health & Wellness provides leadership and oversight of the university’s health and wellness departments. Departments include the Student Health Center, the Counseling Center, Campus Recreation, Health Promotion, and the Center for Mindfulness & Authentic Excellence (CMAX).
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with department directors and with other members of the division/university staff to deliver a well-coordinated, socio-ecological response to the health and wellness needs of an increasingly diverse student population, both in daily operations and in crisis circumstances affecting individuals and/or the campus more generally.
- Develop, review, and implement policies and protocols related to student health and wellness in accordance with legal guidelines (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA), the missions of the institution and division, and best practices in the field.
- Manage student health insurance policies and contracts and serve as the primary adviser to the Senior Vice President on ever-changing state and national healthcare laws/policies and their implications for higher education.
- Provide broad budget oversight for the constituent departments; facilitate strategic planning, assessment, and program evaluation for those areas; coordinate or assist with the assessment of cross-departmental and division-wide wellness goals; and participate actively in donor stewardship and development efforts related to health and wellness;
- Serve on university and division committees.
Conditions of Employment
- This position requires additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.
- This position requires the ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information, particularly in dealings with a wide variety of populations (e.g., faculty, staff, and students) of varying levels of education and skills in communication.
- Requires access to sensitive data; incumbent is required to adhere to confidentiality and security policies.
- This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a field directly related to the position.
- Experience providing health and wellness leadership with an emphasis on consensus- and coalition-building.
- Experience with assessment using qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree in a directly related field (e.g. Ph.D., Psy.D., M.D., Ed.D., Dr.PH).
- Experience in applying positive psychology principles while working with individuals and/or organizations.
- Experience providing health and wellness leadership in an educational setting, with an emphasis on consensus and coalition building.
- “Demonstrated success in development activities, including identifying and applying for grants and other potential sources of revenue, representing health & wellness goals to a range of constituents, and communicating with donors and donor prospects.”

All hiring rates are commensurate with relevant experience up to the advertised amount considering internal alignment.
