Job Purpose: The University of Lynchburg School of Medicine and Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a Master of Healthcare Administration Program Director (PD) non-tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor.  The Master of Healthcare Administration Program Director must be a motivated individual with a proven record of success. The PD will be a collaborative leader in the MHA program overseeing curriculum, program administration and development, student and faculty affairs, recruitment, and alumni engagement. The PD will manage the administrative structure and support system of the program to effectively deliver the MHA degree.  The PD will be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and continuous improvement of the program. The PD will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and institutional administrators as directed by the School of Medicine and Health Sciences dean. The PD will carry a teaching load.

Job Specific Duties:

Program Administration

  • Strong contributor to the growth of the College of Medical Science in regard to curricular and program development
  • Responsible in the organization, administration, continuous and periodic review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program
  • Participates in the development, continuous review, and revision of both the program and college mission, vision, and goals statements
  • Assists in the interview and selection of faculty members (full-time, part-time, and adjuncts)
  • Provides for the continuous review and update of all course materials and learning objectives
  • Provides security for all course and examination materials
  • Assists with the maintenance and coordination of the course schedule with the COMS staff team
  • Provides assistance with the ongoing assessment and review of the curriculum term
  • Reviews instruments for student and faculty course evaluations
  • Prepares an annual accreditation assessment report to appropriate accrediting agency/body
  • Collect, prepares, and submits annual SACSCOC reports to COMS Dean and Institution
  • Teaches online Master of Healthcare Administration courses with which he/she has demonstrated competence and/or experience
  • Member of MHA program committees 
  • Instruction of other COMS programs courses based on expertise 
  • Create, maintain, and submit annual faculty workload assignments and course offerings 
  • Serve as program advisor to MHA students 
  • Process correspondence/requests for information from interested and admitted students
  • Plan and implement MHA student orientation
  • Promote post-graduate employment opportunities for MHA students and alumni
  • Prepare curriculum guides and catalog updates 
  • Represent MHA Program in monthly Graduate Studies Committee (GSC) and COMS Leadership meetings 
  • Manage the development and maintenance of student records 
  • Review all MHA student applicant application materials 
  • Manage MHA Program website and social media channels 
  • Prepare and manage the MHA Program budget in conjunction with the College
  • Prepare and manage MHA Adjunct budget
  • Oversee MHA Adjuncts
  • Seek outside funding, when possible, through grant writing 
  • Communicate program needs to COMS Dean 
  • Provides for the continuous review and update of all course materials and learning objectives
  • Participates in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum

Faculty Affairs 

  • Fosters effective teaching in the MHA program 
  • Evaluate MHA full-time faculty and adjuncts annually
  • Conduct classroom visits/observations of faculty as necessary and required
  • Support faculty efforts in online course development 
  • Determine development needs and foster faculty talents/interests to fit w/ program goals
  • Communicate program plans, activities and expectations to the faculty 
  • Hear faculty grievances; moderate student academic grievances 
  • Support faculty in their efforts to engage with the state, regional, and national public  health community 
  • Support MHA faculty as appropriate in tenure, promotion, and sabbatical processes

Student Affairs 

  • Manage selection of new students 
  • Review all student application materials and determine acceptance into MHA Program
  • Facilitate/communicate program acceptance and registration process for all new MHA students 
  • Respond to MHA Site Visit requests and new student inquiries  
  • Coordinate site visits for interested students to include campus tour and program  overview meeting 
  • Update and distribute annual MHA Student Handbook 
  • Manage acceptance into program and registration process 

Recruitment 

  • Recruit new MHA students 
  • Establish recruitment goals via consultations with Graduate Enrollment 
  • Track application progress through regular use of SLATE.  
  • Process correspondence and requests for information from interested and admitted students  
  • Manage all marketing and recruitment initiatives 
  • Work with Graduate Studies Office, and Graduate Enrollment with marketing and recruitment plans and products 
  • Oversee development of print media as well as web-based initiatives  
  • Work with University marketing to develop program videos and interviews with MHA students and alumni highlights 
  • Develop recruitment initiatives via digital platforms with University marketing team
  • Organize and implement MHA Information Sessions

Advancement & Alumni Affairs 

  • Maintain contact with MHA Alumni 
  • Work with the Alumni Office to maintain such contact 

Teaching Load

  • The PD will carry a teaching load as determined by immediate supervisor and needs of the program

 

Essential Functions - Students

  • Provides and facilitates advising/counseling for students
  • Reviews academic performance with students as needed
  • Provides remediation for students with substandard performance as needed and appropriate 
  • Advises the Program Director of any problems related to student behavior, academic performance, or professionalism
  • Upholds values and mission of the University of Lynchburg

Qualifications

Experience/Skills: 

  • Greater than 3-5 years of  experience in higher education 
  • Credentials sufficient to qualify for an academic or clinical appointment at the level of assistant professor or higher
  • Experience teaching in a MHA program is required
  • Experience with developing, managing, and/or teaching with online curriculum 
  • Experience in communities with multicultural and multilingual students and healthcare providers
  • Teaching, scholarship, and service interests in diverse communities
  • Strong commitment to underserved populations and improving healthcare access
  • Ability to strategically think, develop and execute a long-term vision 
  • Expertise in designing and implementing higher education programs
  • Skilled in budget management, financial planning, and resource allocation to ensure financial sustainability of education initiatives
