Assistant Professor/Instructor - VIDEO PRODUCTION

POSITION SUMMARY:  
Rogers State University is accepting applications for Assistant Professor or Instructor of Video Production in the Department of Communications. Disciplines include Broadcasting and New Media, Strategic Communications, and Communication Arts. 

PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester in Communications courses such as Video Production, Documentary Production, Scriptwriting, Directing, Acting, Film Production, and Animation as an Assistant Professor, or 15 credit hours per semester as an Instructor in the same subjects;
  • Provide instruction in on-ground, hybrid, and/or online undergraduate courses in the Department of Communications' Broadcasting and New Media and Communications Arts options;
  • Develop and revise curriculum;
  • Develop and use syllabi based on university guidelines;
  • Manage confidential student information with discretion, tact and within established FERPA guidelines;
  • Maintain professional relationships with students;
  •  Assist with management, checkout, and upkeep of department’s video and audio equipment;
  • Provide student support via email, Blackboard, and phone (as needed);
  • Grade and post student work while providing constructive and detailed feedback to help students achieve academic success;
  • Foster a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Knowledge of current trends in video production;
  • Proficiency in using, and teaching students to use, the hardware required for video production, including but not limited to video cameras, DSLRs, and sound recording equipment;
  • Proficiency in using, and teaching students to use non-linear editing software for video editing. Experience with the Premiere Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software preferred;
  • Proficiency in using and teaching students to use Animation programs preferred;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s in Communication, Communications, Media Production, Journalism, or related field from an accredited institution for Instructor;
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D or MFA) in Communication, Communications, Media Production, Journalism, or related field from an accredited institution for Assistant Professor;
  • ABD will be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience teaching at the university level;
  • Previous industry experience related to video production, film, broadcast, journalism, or related field.
