Job Details
The Department of Art History at Oberlin College invite applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position in Modern and Contemporary Art History in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year [2 semesters], beginning fall 2025, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.
The incumbent will teach a total of five courses in the general area of Modern and Contemporary Art History. One of these courses will be an introductory survey course, repeated in the fall and spring semesters, entitled either “Approaches to Western Art” or “Approaches to the Art of the Americas.” The remaining three courses will be at the intermediate and advanced level, on topics of the candidate’s choice. The Department welcomes specialists of any subfield or region within the field of Modern and Contemporary Art History whose teaching will explore diverse perspectives, methodologies, and geographies. At the intro level, applicants will be required to teach material prior to the twentieth century.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by the first semester of academic year 2025-2026). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable, as is the ability to teach from original objects. Oberlin College is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. The incumbent will bring understanding of or experience working with underrepresented and diverse academic populations. Oberlin is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service. Oberlin recruits, employs, trains, compensates, and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran’s status, and/or other protected status as required by applicable law.
Review of applications will begin on January 31, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Completed applications received by the January deadline will be guaranteed full consideration.
