Other Conditions: General or Special funds. Appointment to begin August 2025. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty Orientation in the first year, Title IX training, and pass a criminal background check. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach required courses in the health and physical education teacher preparation program at undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate health and physical education majors;
  • Advise and work with graduate students at the Masters and PhD degree levels;
  • Develop and teach face to face on-campus, hybrid, and/or online courses both on Oahu and on the neighbor islands;
  • Supervise teacher candidates on and off campus;
  • Collaborate with current faculty in developing, coordinating, and managing lab spaces for the purpose of research and teaching;
  • Develop and maintain a vigorous scholarly research program that will facilitate acquisition of external funding (from both public and private entities), and enhance graduate student recruitment;
  • Maintain an active research agenda and publication record in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Assist in maintaining national program recognitions or accreditation, i.e., participate in accreditation process, documentation and report preparation for program evaluation for KRS programs;
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development to keep pace with technological and scientific advancement in the field;
  • Contribute in creating a Native Hawaiian place of learning, advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting;
  • Provide department, college, university and community service;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in education with emphasis in physical education or closely related field from accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by start date;
  • Minimum two years in successful teaching experience in health and physical education at the K-12 or higher education (university) level;
  • Experience with developing and teaching online courses related health and physical education;
  • Experience supervising teacher education candidates.

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in hybrid and/or online course development and teaching;
  • Demonstrated success in advising/mentoring graduate and undergraduate student;
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and ability to collaborate across disciplines;
  • Experience with grant writing and management; and potential for securing extramural funding;
  • Record of peer-reviewed publication record in health, physical education, and physical activity;
  • Demonstrated experience in working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures, advancing social justice, equity and inclusion;
  • Experience working with Native Hawaiian, special needs, and/or English language learner populations.
