Postdoctoral Fellowship 2025-2026

Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies

University of Pennsylvania

The Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies (CLALS) of the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a 12-month Postdoctoral Fellowship (July 1, 2025-June 30, 2026), renewable for a second year contingent on satisfactory performance and continued funding. Scholars who focus on Latin American and/or Latinx Studies and have completed a Ph.D. between January 1, 2020 and June 30, 2025 are eligible to apply.

For this year, we welcome applications from any related field, but are particularly interested in scholars working on one or more of the following areas: art history, cinema and media studies, environmental studies, history and sociology of science, Indigenous studies, literary and cultural studies, migration studies, and religious studies. The successful candidate will possess high-level competence and research capability in Spanish, Portuguese, or an Indigenous language of Latin America and demonstrate exceptional academic promise as a scholar. Preference will be given to candidates who have not previously enjoyed the use of the resources of the University of Pennsylvania.

The CLALS Postdoctoral Fellowship carries a minimum stipend of $66,300, a $2,000 research fund, and health insurance. In addition to advancing their research and writing, the postdoctoral fellow is expected to teach one undergraduate course in their area of specialization, organize an event related to their research interests, and attend and contribute to the Center's regular activities and programming. Fellows are required to be in residence for the term of the fellowship.

We seek candidates who share our strong commitment to research, teaching and mentoring, and to a scholarly community shaped by values of inclusive excellence. The Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the University of Pennsylvania are committed to creating a community of students, scholars, and staff that reflects the diversity of the world we live in. We create working and learning environments that are affirming, equitable, and inclusive. As a community, we value dynamic interactions and thoughtful discussions, and strive for an environment where everyone is supported and valued. Qualifications
The fellowship is open to all scholars, national and international, who meet eligibility requirements. International scholars are appointed under a J-1 visa (Research Scholar status). CLALS reserves the right to revoke the offer if the recipient is unable to meet this condition.

If the candidate has not received their PhD, please also include a letter from their department confirming that they will complete all requirements by June 30, 2025. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the offer being withdrawn.
