Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of American Literature
The English Department at the University of North Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in fall 2025. The successful candidate will be a generalist in American literature. We especially welcome candidates with specialties in Early American and/ or multicultural American literatures. Opportunities also exist for the candidate to contribute to department or department-affiliated minors including Southern Studies, Black Studies, Creative Writing, and Restorative Justice. Competitive salary commensurate with degree, rank, and experience with a base salary range of $58,468-$63,468. The position will remain open until filled with candidate review to begin February 1, 2025. Initial interviews will be conducted virtually.
The University of North Alabama is the state’s oldest public university and sits on a beautiful 130-acre campus in historic Florence, Alabama.? Florence is located within a four-city area on the banks of the Tennessee River known as the Shoals, which is steeped in arts, culture, and entertainment—and is home to the famous Muscle Shoals Sound. Duties will include a 4/4 full-time teaching load with the potential of course reduction for research (pending approval), in addition to advising, scholarship, and service, and other duties as designated by the Department Chair. Teaching assignments may involve first-year composition, literature surveys, upper-level courses, and graduate courses.
A PhD in hand by the time of appointment, teaching experience, and evidence of publication or scholarly potential are required.
