The Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a practicing musician to teach courses in contemporary popular songwriting (such as hip hop, rock, pop, and/or punk), sound recording, and digital music production, as well as courses in writing and the humanities within an interdisciplinary curriculum. Candidates should be able to engage students from a variety of backgrounds, including students who have no prior musical experience. Candidates must show promise in meeting tenure requirements for an R1 university. This includes excellence in the areas of teaching, research and creative activity, and service. Research and creative activity can include traditional peer reviewed scholarship as well as creative work as demonstrated through such accomplishments as music released on established labels, performances at established venues, grant-funded work, relevant awards, gallery installations, and other forms of peer/industry recognition. A terminal degree in a related field by the time of appointment and evidence of an active career as a scholar/artist capable of thriving in an interdisciplinary undergraduate learning context are required.
