Assistant Professor of Spiritual Care and Counseling

BOSTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY invites applications for a full-time, tenure- track faculty position in Spiritual Care and Counseling at an Assistant rank to begin in fall 2022. The candidate will hold a Ph.D. or Th.D. in Psychology, Theology, or a related field. An additional seminary degree (e.g., MDiv, MTS, MAR) and relevant licensures for clinical practice (e.g., LP, LCSW) are also highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated potential for a strong research and publishing record within their particular scholarly area, strong competencies in the practice of spiritual care and/or counseling, and advanced skills in teaching and training students to provide spiritual care in professional and pastoral settings.

Candidates must also have interest in working within a diverse theological school, preparing students for vocations in pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, academics, interfaith leadership, counseling, social work, and allied fields; as well as training Ph.D. students to execute interdisciplinary research. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose research incorporates social scientific methodologies. Secondary areas of specialization are open, but could include chaplaincy, marriage and family therapy, religion and conflict studies, trauma studies, racial/ethnic studies, spiritual formation/direction, and practical theology. Preferred candidates will also be able to offer courses on spiritual care for diverse and historically underserved populations. The position also provides an opportunity to pursue affiliation with the Albert and Jessie Danielsen Institute, which operates an out-patient mental health clinic, supervises a clinical training program, and supports the teaching and research program of the School of Theology.
