Vice President for Faculty Development & Advancement
Florida State University (FSU) seeks a visionary leader with a passion for higher education and a commitment to excellence to serve as the Vice President for Faculty Development & Advancement.
The Role
The Vice President serves on the university's senior leadership team and is responsible for guiding the recruitment, retention, development, assessment, and advancement of faculty and their associated academic programs. Although faculty management is distributed on campus, the VP is responsible for leading efforts to ensure the use of best practices in the university's efforts to recruit, support, and retain an outstanding faculty. They will endeavor to develop a collegial culture that enables all faculty members to succeed in research, creative works, teaching, and service. Reporting to the Provost, the VP is also responsible for the implementation of academic policies, including the development, modification, and creation of academic degree programs and management of faculty employment policies.

Primary Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for the management and guidance of the Office of Faculty Development and Advancement to:
• Onboard new faculty members and promote their leadership and scholarship through faculty orientations, workshops, and leadership development programs
• Support and encourage faculty excellence and recognition by creating pathways to honorific awards and support for the nomination process for national and international awards
• Support colleges and departments to identify, create, and suspend/terminate academic degree programs to advance the university's mission
• Work closely with colleges, the FSU Board of Trustees, and the Florida Board of Governors to ensure compliance with all regulations and policies that pertain to academic and faculty employment policies.
• Create and ensure compliance with university policies and programs for faculty recruitment, retention, assignments of responsibility, evaluations, and promotion and tenure processes
• Initiate and review research and analyses on a wide range of faculty issues and synthesizing diverse data points to formulate actionable findings and recommendations while creating an environment that promotes and supports using research and data analyses to guide decision-making and institutional improvement
Working in partnership with the colleges to lead university-level initiatives as assigned by the provost and president
Leading the oversight of the Promotion, Tenure, and Post-Tenure review processes
Serving on the university's management team for bargaining with the faculty union on policies and practices pertaining to faculty employment
Serving as liaison to the Faculty Senate, communicating academic policies to academic units, supporting processes such as the University Curriculum Committee and the Faculty Senate Grievance Committee, and implementing policies of the Academic Honor Policy
Collaborating with campus leadership in the Provost's Office, the Office of Research, the Office of Human Resources, the Registrar's Office, the Graduate School, the Division of Undergraduate Studies, the Office of Student Affairs, Institutional Research, Institutional Performance and Assessment, and Information Technology Services to continuously improve procedures and maintain seamless coordination of faculty-related data across platforms
Responding quickly to resolve faculty issues effectively
Qualifications:
• Doctoral Degree
• Full professor with tenure
• Minimum of seven years of administrative experience leading transformational change at the department, college, or university level
• Preferred Qualifications
• Mix of leadership experience at different levels with a range of stakeholders
Skills and Attributes:
• Knowledge of current best practices for faculty development and recognition including career development for multiple faculty pathways
• Demonstrated commitment to access and opportunity for all faculty
• Appreciation of the diversity of the fields and disciplines of the university and the diversified needs to professional growth and career progression for all faculty
• Demonstrated ability to manage a team and empower academic stakeholders and staff
• Demonstrated record of experience managing faculty recruitment, appointment, review, promotion, tenure, and retention processes across both tenure-track and specialized faculty ranks
• Demonstrated record of successful participation in shared governance processes
• Demonstrated ability in the areas of conflict management, grievance processes, and working through difficult issues
• Demonstrated ability to use research and data analyses to guide decision-making for institutional improvement
• Innovative thinking capable of envisioning and generating solutions
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills
