Environmental Health & Safety Professional II

Primary Purpose of Position:
This position will be part of a multi-disciplinary health and safety team which prides itself on serving as qualified subject matter experts and providing excellent customer service. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Emergency Management Coordinator and administer the University's fire and life safety program. Duties include: oversight and review of all fire and life safety systems on campus to ensure functionality, compliance with campus, federal, state and local regulations, and development, implementation and maintenance of the campus emergency management program, strategies, initiatives and training. This position will serve as the liaison with key officials including the State Fire Marshall's office and establish and maintain effective working relationships with municipality emergency management and fire and life safety groups. This position will be responsible for clear and accurate communications with all personnel on campus and provide guidance to University leadership on all matters related to fire safety and emergency management. This position will update and implement the Campus Emergency Operations Plan and serve as a member of the Emergency Operations Group in addition to leading the Campus Emergency Response Team. This position will develop and administer training in general safety, weather safety, evacuations, fire extinguisher use; coordinate and document evacuation drills as required by statute; assist in responding to hazardous material releases following appropriate safety protocols.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Broad and significant technical knowledge of the principles of EHS and emergency management to assess, interpret, and coordinate the University's administration and application of relevant policies, regulations and laws promulgated from oversight agencies' (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NIMS, etc.) requirements.
• Thorough understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of analytical, technical, and professional knowledge as applied to environmental health and safety and emergency management situations that may occur in a University setting.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures, industry standards, trends, and best practices.
• Knowledge of risk assessment and management; incident investigation and loss prevention.
• Knowledge and ability to communicate effectively with an educationally and culturally diverse community of individuals and groups in a variety of settings to explain and convey program and technical information in accordance with the audience's capability to understand, including the ability to provide technically accurate and succinct briefings in oral, written, or presentation formats.
• Able to conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and hazardous work materials (i.e., solvents, pesticides, chemicals, etc.) to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment.
