POSITION TYPE: Visiting Faculty

START & END DATE: August 1, 2025 - May 31, 2027

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Dordt University is seeking a visiting theology faculty member for a limited term, two-year position to teach multiple sections of an introductory-level “Biblical Foundations” course in our growing Core program, along with selected upper-level course offerings in Theology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach multiple sections of an introductory biblical worldview course in the Core curriculum, as well as other Theology courses.
  • Participate as a full team member in department and university administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in the Core program and campus life of Dordt University.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to a Reformed Christian perspective and the ability to articulate that perspective well in the context of teaching Core and Theology courses.
  • Express an active Christian commitment, which shall include affiliation with a local, confessionally Reformed congregation that actively supports the mission of Dordt University.
  • Personal endorsement of The Educational Task of Dordt University and commitment to the curricular design set forth in The Educational Framework of Dordt University.
  • An earned or in-process doctorate in theology or related field is preferred; a master's degree is required.
  • Demonstrated excellence (or potential for excellence) in teaching, including instructional design and dynamic classroom management, and continual assessment of student learning is desired. A commitment to excellence in college-level teaching, including curriculum design, classroom management, and ongoing student learning assessment is required.
  • Oral and written communication skills and interpersonal abilities that enable effective collaboration with students, faculty and staff, community members, and other professionals.
  • Prospective members of the Dordt University community are expected to agree with its confessional standards (The Three Forms of Unity, comprised of the Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and Canons of Dordt), as well as the university’s sexuality, gender identity, and sexual conduct policy, which can be found on the Dordt University website. (Contact the Academic Affairs Office if you need additional information.)
Participating in the educational task of Dordt University is to be understood as a calling. When disciples of Christ hear and accept God’s call to participate in the task of Dordt University, they occupy a variety of offices. Participating in the work of development and sharing insight is not merely an occupation or a means to gain financial security or self-esteem, but a task to which God calls us. When this sense of office consciousness is lost, we lose the essential meaning of our work. Therefore, Dordt University seeks to develop and foster an atmosphere where all office-bearers can flourish in fulfilling the calling of their office (from the Educational Task of Dordt University found at: https://www.dordt.edu/about-dordt/publications/educational-task-and-framework ).

 Dordt University

Dordt is a private institution of higher education, committed to the Reformed Christian perspective. Located in the heart of the Midwest in the thriving community of Sioux Center, Iowa, Dordt seeks to provide a holistic learning experience for our students, in which they can develop Christian insight to discern and challenge the worldviews of our age in light of God's Word from a Reformed perspective.

With more than 300 employees—including faculty, staff, coaches, and adjunct faculty—Dordt enjoys a great spirit of collaboration and community in which all are committed to helping our students grow through the integration of faith and learning opportunities.

Associated with the Christian Reformed Church, Dordt College was founded in 1955 in Sioux Center, Iowa and welcomes all students who are interested in a biblical, Christ-centered education. Dordt takes its Reformed Christian perspective seriously at all levels of faculty hiring, development, and performance review. Applicants must demonstrate a Christian faith commitment in agreement with Scripture and the basic tenets of the Reformed faith; they must also articulate how their Christian convictions are reflected in their teaching and scholarship. Dordt faculty members continually work to develop and communicate their understanding of how their Reformed worldview influences how they approach their discipline and their task as educator and scholars.
