Job Summary
Reporting to the assigned campus leader, the Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of pool patrons and assists with aquatic programs and pool operations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements*
- Safeguards and regulates conduct of pool patrons, while enforcing pool policies, rules, and regulations
- Rescues patrons and performs appropriate follow-up procedures, including the proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid
- Maintains appropriate records, including participating in the preparation of daily records, providing written reports on all accidents, and maintaining proper updated safety requirements
- Conducts patron swimming test to assess ability to swim independently and unattended while providing customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints, as necessary
- Performs work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures, including operating equipment safely and reporting any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor; attends in-service training and instructs certain skills to staff
- Maintains equipment and materials used within the department
- Maintains room in clean, orderly manner and provides strict security and accountability
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College ( TCC )
- Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Works under the general supervision of the assigned campus leader

Required Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Lifeguard certification
- First aid certification
- CPR / AED certification
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
- At least one (1) year’s working experience as a Lifeguard
- Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
- Skilled using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
- Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
- Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to react to emergency situations, which may require quick movements, strenuous activity, and occasionally assisting or lifting persons in distress of various weights. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move at least 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have exposure to swimming pools, chemical fumes, wet and humid conditions, and occasionally moderately loud noise. The employee may also occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
